OUR IMPACT

The success of Nature Works is reflected in the enhanced well-being of each individual. While these outcomes may be less tangible, they play a crucial role in a child's sense of self, resilience and overall health.

KEY BENEFITS

The person learns new skills, engages with a diverse range of people and share their feelings with a trusted adult, leading to increased self-worth and satisfaction in their accomplishments.

Feedback from pre and post-event surveys capture these experiences, allowing them to takeaway positive affirmations that they can revisit during future visits or share with others.

It increases the likelihood of them speaking about their ideas, thoughts and feelings, enabling the development of emotional resilience, with some people potentially returning as volunteers to support newcomers.

Developmental progress can be measured through observations from the child, parent, guardian and youth worker. For instance, a decrease in the number of visits to a GP concerning health and behavioural issues recorded (all other things being equal) are expected as a result of the program.

Each event aims to engage four CYPs with the potential to positively impact up to 190 individuals annually when at full capacity.

WHY CHOOSE NATURE WORKS

The healing power of nature

Nature itself offers therapeutic benefits such as, reducing stress, improving focus and encouraging creativity. The calming environment of the outdoors helps young people feel more grounded and present, while the natural world nurtures both emotional resilience and mental clarity.

As Ian Turner (The Tree Council) highlights, being in trees and woodlands and nurturing these spaces, supports not only our wellbeing but also the health of the environment. The reciprocal connection between people and nature helps foster a sense of purpose and belonging, deepening our appreciation for both ourselves and the world around us.

The Impact of COVID-19 on mental health

The COVID-19 pandemic has increased stress and anxiety for many young people with feelings of isolation due to children struggling to now focus and connect with others without using technology. Nature offers a powerful way to combat these challenges, embracing outdoor activities, which support healthier relationships, improving mental-wellbeing and a greater sense of connection to the real world.

The woodland activities that build confidence and offer personal growth

Nature Works offers a unique approach to therapy by immersing young people in woodland activities that foster both personal growth and confidence. Through hands-on experiences such as, foraging, shelter building and fire preparation, CYP develop practical skills while gaining a sense of accomplishment and self-reliance. These activities not only build resilience but also encourage teamwork, problem-solving and communication, helping young people grow emotionally and socially in a supportive, nature-based environment.

Trauma-informed support from youth workers

At Nature Works, our experienced youth workers provide professional, trauma-informed support to help children and young people (CYPs) navigate their personal and psychological challenges. By creating a safe and compassionate environment, we empower CYPs to gain a deeper understanding of their experiences, build resilience, and take positive steps towards healing and growth.
